PuriFry Wins at 2013 Irish Franchise Awards

Best Emerging Franchise Award 2013PuriFry Fryer Management Service are delighted to have won the Best Emerging Franchise Category at the 2013 National Irish Franchise Awards in Dublin. The Award was presented to Carey Baxter, founder of PuriFry, by John Perry, TD, Minister for Small Business and Bobby O Keefe of Fastway Couriers. Carey Baxter welcomed the recognition that the award brings “As a young Franchise it is fantastic to have won this award, in recognition of the hard work by everyone involved in establishing and developing our business model across Ireland. We look forward to further expansion of the network in Ireland, and the opportunity other areas such as Great Britain present.”

The Ulster Bank Irish Franchise Association Awards 2013 were announced on Friday, October 11th at the Clyde Court Hotel in Dublin, recognising excellence in franchising and rewarding the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals in the franchise industry.  Established for over 20 years, the franchise awards are one of the longest standing and most prestigious business events in Ireland.  Over 230 guests attended the black-tie gala event hosted by Newstalk’s Jonathan Healy and officiated by John Perry, TD, Minister for Small Business.  The evening was filled with heady anticipation as many familiar faces from the world of franchising were entertained by the Havana Club Trio and a full programme of entertainment as they waited for the final results to be announced and bespoke crystal awards to be presented. 

David Killeen, Chairman of the Irish Franchise Association said “The awards are an opportunity for us to formally recognise and celebrate the excellent work being done by all franchise operators in growing our sector, consolidating existing businesses and protecting sustainable jobs despite the difficult trading conditions we currently face. On behalf of the Association I would like to congratulate not just the finalists but all entrants and winners. Through the collective effort of all involved, we continue to drive improvements in standards and the understanding of best practice and ethical franchising in Ireland. I sincerely thank Ulster Bank for their continued association with this event and their on-going support and commitment to our sector” 

The judging panel for the 2013 Ulster Bank Irish Franchise Association Awards included Irish Dragon and Newstalk Presenter Bobby Kerr; Orna Stokes, Senior Manager, SME Propositions, Ulster Bank; Orla Nugent, Director Executive MBA, UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School; Greg Swift of Dublin County Enterprise Board, Michael Bradley, former CEO of the Irish Franchise Association and Siobhan Lennon, Commercial Director of the Sunday Business Post.  Speaking on the night, Bobby Kerr commended the very high standard of the entries and presentations received and remarked on trends this year around ‘Cost Management’ and ‘Health and Fitness’ Franchises which reflect the growth of franchising beyond the traditional sectors. 

The award ceremony was one of the highlights of the Ulster Bank Irish Franchising and Start-ups EXPO on October 11th and 12th at the RDS Dublin.   The ceremony was an impressive business event reflecting the strength of the franchise sector in these challenging times.  With a turnover of €2.4 billion and 4,086 operating units on the island of Ireland, the sector offers 42,927 full-time jobs to the economy.  Ulster Bank was once again the headline sponsor for the awards and category sponsors this year included Snap, Fastway Couriers, The Zipyard, Rialto Motors, JBM & Merit Solutions, Franchise Your Business.ie, Beauchamps Solicitors, McDonalds and Skillnet.
